APCI is a member-owned group purchasing organization, established in 1984 to protect and promote the interests of independent pharmacies. They also administer strong management programs to further fortify their members’ ability to be competitive.


ASAP is a national nonprofit organization representing the interests of companies that provide technology-based systems and related services to pharmacies in the United States. ASAP has developed the electronic reporting standard that is in widespread use by prescription-monitoring programs.

Like the prescription-monitoring standard, the new PSE-tracking standard contributes to state and national efforts to ensure the proper use of both prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) drugs and to combat the unlawful diversion, manufacture, misuse, and abuse of such drugs.


The National Council for Prescription Drug Programs promotes the transfer of data related to medications, supplies, and services within the healthcare system through the development of standards and industry guidance.

The organization provides a forum and support for their diverse membership. NCPDP also offers its members resources, including educational opportunities and database services, to better manage their businesses.

The Special Interest Group for IIAS Standards was formed to create a standard industry solution that could be both scalable and broadly adoptable, while consistent with IRS requirements.

The Group and its standards are the culmination of over a year of hard work by a broad set of stakeholders. With a focus on interoperability, the group brings a diverse range of participants together to offer an IIAS solution that is recognized industry-wide.

IIAS-compliant transactions enable real-time, auto-substantiation for eligible medical items purchased with an FSA/HRA payment card. Implementation of the voluntary SIGIS standard will lead to a more efficient healthcare expense payment mechanism for consumers. As of January 1, 2009, the IRS requires most pharmacy retailers to operate an IIAS.

State Associations

The Alabama Pharmacy Association

The Alabama Pharmacy Association is a nonprofit professional organization with over 1,600 members statewide. The APA offers continuing education programs for pharmacists and technicians, and members take a leading role in lobbying for pharmacy at the state and national level.

The APA was established in 1881 and is the oldest professional organization for pharmacy in the state. APA members represent all practices of pharmacy and are committed to their profession and their patients.

Colorado Pharmacists Society

The Colorado Pharmacists Society provides support and services to over 600 member pharmacists, technicians, and associated pharmacy professionals. The Colorado Pharmacists Society was formed from the merger of the Colorado Pharmacists Association (CPhA) and the Colorado Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists (CSHP).

CPS represents pharmacists in all practice settings at state and national legislatures, boards of pharmacy, professional meetings, and seminars; and maintains affiliations with national organizations such as the American Pharmacists Association and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.

Illinois Pharmacists Association

The Illinois Pharmacists Association is dedicated to enhancing the professional competency of pharmacists, advancing the standards of pharmacy practice, improving pharmacists’ effectiveness in assuring rational drug use in society, and leading in the resolution of public policy issues affecting pharmacists.

Iowa Pharmacy Association

The Iowa Pharmacy Association is the state society representing the profession of pharmacy, united for the purpose of advancing public health, particularly the pharmaceutical care of all Iowans.

The Iowa Pharmacy Association is organized to preserve and advance the interests of the profession and to serve the professional needs of all pharmacists, pharmacy students, and pharmacy technicians.

Kansas Pharmacists Association

The Kansas Pharmacists Association is a state professional society of pharmacists, united for, and dedicated to, the advancement and promotion of quality and rational public health, with particular reference to assuring optimal pharmacotherapy for the citizens of Kansas.

The Association is founded upon its commitment to preserve, protect, and advance the interests of, and to serve the economic, educational, ethical, and social needs of the pharmacy profession.

Louisiana Pharmacist Association

The purpose of the Louisiana Pharmacist Association is to promote the interests of all pharmacists of the State of Louisiana; promote the availability of quality pharmaceutical care; promote the ethical provision of pharmacy practice; identify issues affecting pharmacists and disseminate information, make policy, implement programs, and coordinate activities to address those issues; and educate members, the public, health care professionals, and related organizations in all matters relevant to the practice of pharmacy.

Minnesota Pharmacists Association

The Minnesota Pharmacists Association mission is to serve Minnesota pharmacists to advance patient care.

Mississippi Pharmacy Association

The Mississippi Pharmacy Association is a group of committed professionals with a rich history of involvement in pharmacy issues on state and national levels. They are dedicated to keeping the critical pharmacists’ voices heard, and the interests of pharmacies protected, so that both the profession and the public may have the best in pharmacy care and service.

Missouri Pharmacy Association

The Missouri Pharmacy Association is a committed group of professional pharmacists with high standards and goals, both for themselves and their profession. MPA has a rich history of involvement in pharmacy issues on state and national levels. With membership, a pharmacist joins others who support the professional ideas for which pharmacy stands.

In today’s changing health care environment, it is critical that pharmacists’ voices are heard and that the pharmacy’s interests are protected so that both the profession and the public may have the best in pharmacy care and service.

Nebraska Pharmacists Association

Located in Lincoln, Nebraska, the NPA is a non-profit organization that serves Nebraska pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and student pharmacists, and can also be a resource for consumers. The NPA is the one entity in Nebraska that acts as a single voice for pharmacy across the state.

The NPA acts as a central source of information for those with questions regarding the practice of pharmacy. Through its other entities (NebPharmPAC and Foundation), the NPA also provides financial contributions to state legislative campaigns and scholarships for student pharmacists.

The NPA not only serves its members by promoting the profession of pharmacy, but also works to benefit the consumer of pharmaceutical care.

Oklahoma Pharmacists Association

The Mission of the Oklahoma Pharmacists Association is to unite the profession of pharmacy and encourage inter-professional relations; to promote public health through education, discussion, and legislation; to promote the profession of pharmacy through advocacy, communication, and education; to encourage and enable pharmacists to build and maintain innovative pharmacy practices that meet the healthcare needs of their patients by improving patient outcomes and public health; and to work to integrate pharmacists as vital members of the healthcare team.

Texas Pharmacy Association

TPA serves almost 4,000 members practicing in all areas of pharmacy, including community pharmacies, hospitals, long-term care facilities, education, manufacturing, and distribution.

TPA is the strongest voice speaking for all Texas pharmacy professionals, as well as national leaders in lobbying, continuing education, and practice innovation.
